Many people in the villages are disabled, through polio or cerebral palsy or a variety of birth defects. Hardly any specialist treatment has previously been available, so they were destined to be disabled for life and a severe burden to their families.

Together with the Narayan Sewa Sansthan Trust and the RCFC, Amar Lata organises outreach disability camps to diagnose, treat or refer patients.

Mousona Khatun suffered severe burns to her face and body at the age of 2 when the mosquito net over her bed caught fire from a kerosine lamp. Gurubari Bisayi cannot walk after a similar burns accident.

And there are many more, disabled by burns or polio, for whom treatment would mean an independent life and the chance to have families and a future of their own. But these families are extremely poor and such intensive medical care is entirely beyond their means.

On Amar Lata’s initiative, doctors have offered to undertake the required series of plastic surgery free of charge, but there are still the costs of hospital stay and operations – ca 300 GBP per patient. Mousona has already benefitted from this life-changing opportunity.
